This was our third installment of the Dupont Camp - Trailwork- Ride Weekend partnering with our sister chapter Pisgah Area SORBA still working on the Pine Tree Trail conversion from Troad " old road bed trail" into Singletrack trail. What a great weekend, thanks to all who participated.
Good friends, good fellowship, good food, good weather, good turnout for the trailwork, good effort by all involved, good group ride etc. It was indeed an awesome weekend.
Here is the re-cap:
Leading up to the weekend- I did a lot of volunteer work over the past 2 weeks doing machine de-berming work and better water management on many trails. Jonathon and Clay joined me on Wed. for some rock armoring work on Corn Mille Shoals. Friday- I did some finish work on trails that I had worked on with the machine in the afternoon. Came back to check in at the barn at 6:30 or so and Brad and family rolled in to set up camp. I headed off for a solo evening ride which was great, all the trails I had worked on were dry and rolling great despite daily rain storms. Back to the barn area by 8:30 and more campers had rolled in including lots of kids. Dinner was cooking and smelling good, a dutch oven full of stew and another for corn bread.

Saturday- Weather was good (for Aug) and after a large breakfast (blueberry pancakes, eggs and bacon) we headed off to the worksite. We had 20+ folks working on Pine Tree Trail and another 5-6 working with Ed on the pumptrack. There were 12 or so folks who worked all day (till 3:30 or so) and another 10+ who rolled in open house style for a few hours of work. The trail turned out great and it was time for late afternoon swims and short rides. Dinner by all the folks camping was awesome, you simply would not believe how good the food was. After dinner I showed slides of our trip to Scotland and Wales back in May and all the great riding there.
Sunday- Great food again for breakfast, then off for group rides. There were several groups for different ride difficulties and everyone had fun, many folks checking out the new trail work. David Maida rolled through with a large group he was riding with from the Statesville area. After everyone had packed up and left, JoJo and went for an afternoon swim and kayak in Lake Julia. It was a great way to end an awesome weekend.

This was our first installment of the year, April 17-19 for the Dupont Weekend (Camp - TrailWork - Ride Weekends) . The workday was Sat. April 18th, and we met up with our sister chapter Pisgah Area SORBA at the Corn Mill Shoals parking area at Dupont State Forest, North Carolina. We worked on Pine Tree Trail at the Longside Trial junction, converting the trail from old road bed to singletrack trail. Our project consisted of repairing some damage from the recent SORBA fund raiser, a lot of rock armoring work, and a short trail relocation. Camping was made available at the horse barn down near Bridal Veil Falls for all volunteers and participants of the Upstate SORBA Women's Ride clinic that was held over at Guion Farm area Saturday. Thanks again to all who came out! we hope to do more of these in the future! Photos of the Day's Work

ChainBreaker Trail Work - Issaqueena, Clemson |

Saturday March 7th 2008 made my way out to Issaqueena (Clemson) to get in a ride, and also scout out the trail work we would be doing the next day Sunday the 8th started the ride going down the Dam Rd. trail and got to the mud hole and as soon as rode through it was covered in Clemson Mud. face, chest, shorts, legs and shoes... so i spent the next hour draining out the pit by opening up the blockage and then gathered enough rock to fill the pit!
then after hittin' the Issaqueena Lake Trail for some scenic bliss, i crossed over to Chain Breaker Trail to assess the damage that was done couple of months back when a tornado hit over near the town of Six Mile. Now i don't think a tornado actually hit here at the trail.... They call it "Straight Line Winds" powerful downdraft that levels everything in it's path... I took me over an hour just to cover maybe hundred yards....
What a mess
there were at least a 100 trees down, some stacked 3 or 4 high, again what a mess, Saturday seemed hopeless, there was no way we could tackle getting this cleared and rideable.
Something Amazing happened Sunday.... If you throw enough people at a problem you really can accomplish anything! Thanks to the 20+ folks who came out for the group ride. Thanks to the Greater Clemson Mountain Bike Club, and Rockie English from Clemson University and all of the volunteers who busted their asses and chain saws to get this trail back open! Chainbreaker trail is 95% clear of all down trees and storm debris.

Thanks to everyone who join Upstate SORBA on Dec 13, 2008 down in Greenville's Cleveland Park. City park management gave us the OK to add additional singletrack to the Troop 19 Trail which is the land over to the west side of the Greenville Zoo. Thanks to Pete Dodd & Andrew Meeker for coordinating this effort. Here are some photos from the days worth of trail work.
